SADDLEBROOKE PICKLEBALL ASSOCIATION ON TARGET TO ACHIEVE 10-YEAR ‘OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER’ MILESTONE WITH PINAL COUNTY’S ADOPT-A-ROAD PROGRAM | Community

In support of Pinal County’s Adopt-A-County-Road Program, members from the SaddleBrooke Pickleball Association (SPA) gathered together on Saturday, March 28 for this year’s spring cleanup of Edwin Road along the south boundary of SaddleBrooke from North Columbus Boulevard to Eagle Crest Ranch Boulevard. SPA has been a participant in the program since 2017, with members performing twice a year cleanup of Edwin Road.

In the early morning, organized and led by Terry and Karol Jackson, 13 pickleballers wearing hi-vis vests and carrying grabbers and orange heavy-duty trash bags scoured the roadside, picking up trash, including cans, bottles, plastic bags, cardboard, paper products and more. In one short stretch of roadway, one group found 12 Little League baseballs in various states of weathering; Junior must be hitting home runs over his backyard wall.

Heartwarming thanks for the volunteers came from honking car horns and from several cyclists who waved and shouted “thanks for all you do” to the volunteers working along the roadside as they flew by on their morning ride.

Recognition for their efforts goes to Organizers Terry and Karol Jackson; participating Board Members, Peggy Downs and Ron Flanders; and volunteers Linda Bailey, John Bidegain, Don Burkhead, Linda Eglin, Leland Guyer, Ellen Hanscom, Rich Jensen Betsy Kazary, Corey Loyd, Joe Sanders and Frank Shipton.
