Damage, multiple injuries reported in North Texas during severe storms

The Palo Pinto Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there are multiple injuries following a Tornado Warning in the region.

MINERAL WELLS, Texas — Multiple people were injured after severe weather prompted a Tornado Warning in Palo Pinto County, according to Mineral Wells city officials.

Officials confirmed to WFAA that deputies responded to reports of injuries in Mineral Wells, although the exact number was not yet released. Officials said none of the injuries were critical.

At least two people were taken to the hospital for treatment, said Mineral Wells Fire Chief Ryan Dunn during a Tuesday evening news conference. No deaths were reported, and no community members were reported missing, officials said.

“We’re going to get through this,” said Police Chief Tim Denison. “We’re going to be there for them.”

The city confirmed structural damage in the industrial areas and the northeast portion of the city.

Downed power lines were reported on East Hubbard Street near Highway 180. WFAA spoke with business workers who reported large hail in the area.

Multiple homes were damaged, and several families were displaced; however, officials were unclear of how many as of Tuesday evening. Several homes and businesses were without power, city officials said.

WFAA was allowed inside the Holliday Hills Country Club neighborhood, next to the golf course, and crews saw extensive damage. Homes were ripped apart and tree limbs snapped in half.

The city opened the Mineral Wells High School cafeteria for shelter and families needing assistance. Mineral Wells ISD confirmed to WFAA that classes will resume on Wednesday.

“We are asking residents to stay home and avoid traveling in the northeast area of Mineral Wells, specifically from Country Club Estates to Lake Mineral Wells State Park along Highway 180,” city officials said in a statement.

The Tornado Warning was issued as strong storms moved through North Texas, bringing the threat of damaging winds and possible tornado activity. It’s unclear at this time whether a tornado has been confirmed on the ground.

Emergency crews were actively working in affected areas, assessing damage and assisting those hurt. Authorities had not yet provided details on specific locations impacted or the extent of structural damage.
