TPD arrests 24, tows 7 cars in South Kolb street racing bust | Crime

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Tucson Police Department arrested 24 people and towed seven vehicles during a street racing operation this past weekend in collaboration with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers identified a large gathering near Valencia and South Kolb Road that included participants and dozens of spectators. The operation resulted in seven juvenile arrests and 17 adult arrests.

TPD said street racing and street takeovers are dangerous and unpredictable. These events can draw large crowds, sometimes involving individuals who are armed or under the influence, and situations can escalate in seconds.

Recent fatal crashes in the community are a reminder of the consequences tied to this behavior, according to the department. TPD’s strategy focuses on enforcement, surveillance and coordination to hold those involved accountable while keeping the public safe.

The department warned that participating in illegal street racing or reckless driving can lead to arrest. Even spectating can lead to citations or arrest.

TPD, along with regional partners, will continue proactive enforcement efforts to stop these gatherings before they grow into something more dangerous. Anyone with information about illegal street racing can report it anonymously to 88-CRIME.
