Woman struck crossing street in wheelchair dies days later

A 59-year-old woman has died days after being struck while crossing the street in a crosswalk but against the light on Tucson’s northwest side, authorities say.

About 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8, Cathy Spears was in a wheelchair in a crosswalk at North La Cholla Boulevard and West Orange Grove Road when she was struck by a vehicle, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

She was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. She died Nov. 19, the release said.

While the crash still is being investigated, investigators say Spears was crossing against the light when she was struck by a 2010 Toyota Corolla.

No charges or citations have been filed in the wreck.
