TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The question many in Tucson have involves the HAWK signals scattered throughout the city.
Residents are curious about how closely the Tucson Police Department monitors traffic at these signals. HAWK signals were first introduced in the late 1990s and are designed to alert drivers when someone is attempting to cross the street.
Tucson police emphasize that monitoring driver behavior around these signals is a priority. The department is currently developing a campaign to increase awareness about HAWK signals and their function. This effort includes a safety video that is expected to be released in a few weeks.
