Tucson’s Matthew Riccitello wins white jersey at La Vuelta a España | News



TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Tucson professional cyclist Matthew Riccitello had the race of his life in the penultimate stage of La Vuelta a España.

Riccitello finished sixth in the stage, which propelled him to fifth overall in the race standings with one stage remaining.

He also became the first American to win the white jersey at La Vuelta, an honor awarded to the best young rider.

The 23-year-old began his cycling journey with El Grupo, a youth cycling organization in the Old Pueblo. 

La Vuelta is one of the three Grand Tour cycling races, along with the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia.

The race wraps up on Sunday in Madrid.
