TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Thousands gathered at Arizona Stadium for the University of Arizona’s 161st commencement ceremony, celebrating nearly 9,000 new graduates.
“It’s amazing being here now. Everyone worked so hard to get to this point, and it’s just so nice to be celebrating together,” said Daniela Villacorta, a biochemistry graduate.
The event drew more than 30,000 friends, family members, and supporters, all there to honor the Class of 2025.
“Four years flew by. It’s hard to believe—it’s just an awesome feeling,” said Benjamin Maldonado, another biochemistry graduate.
This year’s ceremony was the first overseen by University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella, who conferred degrees across various programs.
“Tonight is a reflection of our commitment to student success—and the incredible achievements of our graduating Wildcats,” said Garimella.
Keynote speaker Erik Weihenmayer, the only blind climber to summit the world’s seven highest peaks, delivered a powerful message of resilience and vision to the graduates.
“We do have a choice. Do we allow the elements to diminish us into something bitter and monstrous? Or do we allow those elements to shape us into something beautiful and profound,” said Weihenmayer.
Graduates like Rylie Mizer are ready for their next adventure. “I’m hoping to work in a major museum—maybe in New York, something tied to a foundation. I just want to be around the art,” she said.
Congratulations to the new Wildcats as they embark on their journeys!
