Teen driver killed in crash

An 18-year man was killed when Tucson police say he crashed into a tree early Friday on the city’s northeast side.

Randy Allan Woltz was driving a 2005 Kia Rio west on East Tanque Verde Road when he lost lost control at a curve near East Camino Principal, drove over a curb and slammed into a palm tree, police said in a news release.

Investigators say they found alcohol containers and marijuana paraphernalia in the vehicle. Woltz, the sole occupant, was not wearing a seat belt, the release said.

Excessive speed is believed to be the major contributing factor of the crash. Any impairment will be determined later, the release said.
