Sierra Vista man faces felony charges following high-speed chase | Cochise County

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (KVOA) – A man is facing multiple felony charges after a high-speed pursuit in Sierra Vista ended with a crash on Buffalo Soldier Trail.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 9, the Sierra Vista Police Department said officers received reports from Home Depot customers about a man in a gray vehicle allegedly pointing a weapon towards them that resembled an AR-15.

Another report claimed the suspect attempted to run someone over.

A Cochise County Sheriff’s Office deputy later spotted the vehicle on Buffalo Soldier Trail and St. Andrews Drive. SVPD said the deputy observed the suspect endangering two cyclists by swerving toward them, resulting in the cyclists going off the road.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled, leading to a pursuit reaching speeds of 90 mph. The chase ended when the suspect crashed into an electric pole on Buffalo Soldier Trail, and officers discovered a BB gun resembling an AR-15 and an airsoft gun in the vehicle, SVPD said.

The suspect now faces charges including aggravated assault, endangerment, aggravated DUI, unlawful flight from law enforcement, theft of means of transportation, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He remains in custody at Cochise County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
