Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff talks abortion rights during Tucson campaign stop for Harris | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff urged Vice President Kamala Harris’ supporters to vote for his wife come November while stressing the importance for reproductive rights.

It was a loud reception for Emhoff’s visit to the Old Pueblo Thursday.

It did not take long for Emhoff to take a jab at former President Donald Trump.

“Trump is weak, unhinged and unfit for any job let alone President of the United States,” Emhoff said.

The verbal attack was a transition for Emhoff to speak about what he thinks is Trump’s view on abortion rights.

“Wants to continue this extremist crusade that none of us want. To dismantle women’s reproductive rights and women somehow less than,” Emhoff said.

Emhoff says his wife Vice President Kamala Harris would do a better job protecting those rights.

“And the first step is electing Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, take the senate, take the house, win all those ballot initiatives, take all the state legislatures for freedom!” Emhoff emphasized.

And there were supporters among the packed Stonebridge Events Center who agreed with Emhoff’s words about abortion.

“It should be between the person and the doctor. The doctor knows what’s good for you not some politician,” said Linda Kunsberg, a Harris supporter.

“I think it’s just basic human decency to want the best for our wives, our girlfriends our mothers,” said Caleb Hayter, a Harris supporter.

Emhoff ended his speech to encourage Harris’ supporters to help register people to vote and to help the campaign.

“Let’s be joyful warriors… so I can enjoy the fruits of our labor to see my wife Kamala Harris the next President of these United States!” Emhoff shouted.

Emhoff is expected to campaign at Grand Rapids and Lansing, Michigan on Friday, another crucial battleground state for the Harris campaign.
