Reward offered in killing of javelina found in Tucson | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — The Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Operation Game Thief program is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case of a javelina found shot dead in the 1400 block of South Cherrybell Street.

The incident likely occurred between 5 p.m. on October 21 and 4 a.m. on October 22. The male javelina was killed by a single gunshot at close range, and physical evidence has been recovered at the scene.

“Poachers are criminals. They are thieves who steal wildlife from Arizona citizens,” said Regional Supervisor Raul Vega of the Arizona Game and Fish Department in Tucson. “Especially troubling about this case is that the javelina was left in full view of the public in a parking lot.”

Individuals with information about the case are urged to call the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Operation Game Thief Hotline at 800-352-0700. Tips can be provided anonymously, referencing OGT#24-002958.

The maximum penalties for the illegal take of wildlife include up to four months in jail and a $750 fine, with additional civil penalties potentially applicable.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is responsible for managing more than 800 native wildlife species, the most of any inland state, ensuring their conservation for current and future generations of Arizona citizens.
