GRAHAM COUNTY, Ariz. (KVOA) – A new wildfire, known as the Jacobson Fire, ignited in the Turkey Flat area of Mount Graham on May 26 around 9 p.m., according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The fire spans approximately six to eight acres and remains at zero percent containment. The cause is currently under investigation.
A Type 3 Incident Management Team has been activated, with additional resources on their way. Four hotshot crews, a Department of Corrections crew, and local responders are actively battling the blaze.
Air support includes two Type 1 helicopters conducting water bucket drops, while Very Large Airtankers (VLAT) and Large Airtankers (LAT) are expected to begin retardant drops this morning.
For public and firefighter safety, authorities urge everyone to avoid the area due to increased fire traffic. Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) are in place.
