National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month is in January | Community

The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) of 2000 served as the impetus for the President, in 2010, to annually dedicate January as the month to raise awareness about human trafficking.

Trafficking in humans includes both forced labor and sex trafficking. At Mountain Shadows Presbyterian Church in Catalina, at least one member has been actively working to help raise awareness about trafficking.

Each year, January 11 is designated as “National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.” The color blue is internationally symbolic of human trafficking awareness. Thus, on January 11, 2025, everyone is encouraged to “wear blue.”

For individuals skilled in using social media, use of #WearBlueDay will help spread the word. To access multiple resources on human trafficking, check out the Mountain Shadows Presbyterian Church website at mountainshadowschurch.org using the search term “trafficking.”
