Mother of late rapper Lil Peep trying to save The Rock | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The mother of the late rapper Lil Pepp is leading an effort to save the music venue The Rock in Tucson.

Liza Womack, mother of Gustav Elijah Ahr, known as Lil Peep, initiated a petition to halt the demolition. Ahr died of a drug overdose in his tour bus parked outside The Rock in November of 2017.

Womack calls The Rock a cultural landmark and emphasizes the significance of a memorial for her son that stands outside the venue.

“The proposal to tear down The Rock and replace it with yet another apartment building signifies a loss of cultural heritage and community spirit,” Womack wrote on the petition. “In a city as culturally rich as Tucson, preserving historical and meaningful sites is crucial. The memorial, in particular, stands not only as a tribute to my son’s memory but also as an enduring symbol of how music brings people together, transcending boundaries and touching souls.”

The petition has gathered tens of thousands of signatures.

Ascent Property Company owns The Rock and plans to construct a five-story apartment complex on the site, which includes a parking lot owned by the Tucson Unified School District.

There is currently no word on when the demolition will occur.
