TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – It was an important night at McKale for Arizona Women’s Basketball.
The Wildcats kept their NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a 66-57 win over Texas Tech. They also celebrated seniors Ajae Yoakum and Isis Beh in a pregame ceremony.
Arizona Women’s Basketball kept its NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a 66-57 win over Texas Tech on Senior Day. Isis Beh led the Wildcats with a team-high 15 points.
Three Wildcats scored in double figures. Fittingly, Beh led Arizona with 15 points. She added four rebounds and two assists. Jada Williams followed with 14 points, while Paulina Paris added 11.
Arizona and Texas Tech battled through a tight first half featuring 14 lead changes. The Wildcats held a 25-24 edge at the break. The Red Raiders regained the lead in the first 20 seconds of the second half with a steal and fast break layup. However, that was the last time they led.
Montaya Dew provided a spark off the bench for Arizona. She had eight points and eight rebounds. She went down with an injury in the fourth quarter. Head Coach Adia Barnes said after the game that Dew is fine, but could miss a practice or two.
Arizona outscored Texas Tech 18-11 in the third quarter. The Wildcats led by as many as 11 in the 4th after Jada Williams drained a three with 3:26 left.
The Wildcats found their rhythm in the second half, outscoring the Lady Raiders 18-11 in the third quarter and stretching their lead to 11 points in the final period. A three-pointer from Jada Williams at the 3:26 mark of the fourth quarter gave Arizona its largest lead of the night, securing control down the stretch.
With the victory, the Wildcats improved to 18-12 overall and 9-8 in conference play. The Cats closeout the regular season at Arizona State Saturday, March 1 with tip-off set for 4 p.m.
