TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The first round of the Cologuard Classic is complete!
Australian Greg Chalmers sits atop the leaderboard after shooting a 7-under-64. He birdied eight holes, including four of his final six.
Greg Chalmers holds a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Cologuard Classic. He shot a 7-under-64.
Weather was a factor in Friday’s opening round. It rained before play began and cold, windy conditions lingered all day.
That didn’t seem to bother Chalmers, who had his career-best round on the PGA Tour Champions.
Chalmers is two strokes ahead of Rod Pampling, Stephen Ames and Ernie Els, who are tied for second.

There’s a five-way tie for 5th place at 4-under. Among those tied is Stewart Cink. He led after the first two rounds at last year’s event before struggling in the final round.
U of A Golf Alum Ted Purdy sits in a five-way tie for 10th place at 3-under. Defending champion Joe Durant is tied for 22nd at 1-under and tournament host Jerry Kelly was +2 on the day. He’s tied for 57th.
The second round tees off Saturday at 10:05 a.m.
