Tucson residents can drop off old cleaning products, batteries, paint
and paper documents at the city’s monthly household hazardous waste
collection event, set for Saturday morning, Nov. 9.
The city’s
Environmental and General Services Department will be collecting waste
such as propane cylinders, pool chemicals, printer cartridges, auto
batteries, oil filters and cleaning products at the Pima College East, 8181 E. Irvington Rd., from 8
a.m. to noon.
Up to three boxes of old documents can be brought to be shredded.
City officials encourage residents to dispose of batteries at the event to protect trash workers and landfill operators.
The
city will not accept unknown chemicals, medical waste (including sharps
and medications), business waste, and hazardous items like explosives,
ammunition, and radioactive material. Find a complete list of what can be dropped off on the city’s website.
Residents can dispose of dried paint and alkaline batteries in their regular trash.
For
those unable to attend the Saturday event, HHW items can be dropped off
at the Los Reales landfill, 5300 E. Los Reales Rd., on Thursdays,
Fridays, and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., except on Saturdays when
the city is doing its monthly collection events.
The program is
free for Tucson residents, but those living in nearby suburbs or
unincorporated Pima County must pay a $10 fee. Residence must be proven
with a driver’s license or current utility bill.
Next month’s collection event will be Dec. 14 at Jacobs Park, 3300 N. Fairview Ave. A complete list of collection dates and additional information is posted online.
