Community mourns Tucson teen slain in house party shooting | Local News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – More than 100 people gathered to remember Abraham Vindiola, an 18-year-old Tucson teen who was shot at a southside house party on Nov. 2 and later died. Vindiola was one of two teenagers who died in the incident.

Vindiola grew up playing baseball at Tucson’s Field of Dreams on the southside. That’s where attendees gathered Friday night, many bringing balloons, which they later released into the sky. The crowd included family, classmates, and friends.

Jordan Valdez met Vindiola through baseball more than ten years ago. Their friendship continued through high school.

“Every moment that I can think of about him was just always so happy and so fun, so bright and just so upbringing,” Valdez told News 4 Tucson.

Others recalled Vindiola as a T-ball player.

“He was a humble, quiet, great kid, you know. He was just a kid that was strictly to himself. Good foundation around him, he was just all around a great player, a great kid,” Joseph Benitez, Vindiola’s T-ball coach, said.

The Nov. 2 shooting claimed the lives of Vindiola and 19-year-old Eduardo Toyos. Police reported that gunfire followed a fight. Toyos was pronounced dead at the scene, while Vindiola died at the hospital after being in critical condition. Two others were injured.

Many of those Friday wore red and black to honor Vindiola. He graduated from Tucson High School in May of this year, alongside Valdez.

“I feel like he’s one of those people that in a sense you’ll just feel him there. You’ll know he’s present, whether or not he’s on this Earth,” Valdez said.

The Tucson Police Department stated on Tuesday that there were no suspects in the shooting. On Friday, they confirmed that “the case is currently progressing,” but no arrests have been made. The public is urged to submit tips to 88-CRIME.
