Cody Fire in Oracle: 1,200 acres burned, containment at 5% | News

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Cody Fire has scorched over 1,200 acres near Oracle, with containment holding at just 5%. Residents are questioning why the containment number hasn’t increased.

“I know people love seeing that containment percentage go up. I just want to explain that number doesn’t mean 95% of the fire is still burning. I’m confident it will increase tomorrow. We just need firefighters on the ground to confirm the areas are truly cold,” said Stefan La-Sky, spokesperson for the Southwest Incident Management Team 4.

Despite strong winds, containment lines are holding. Aerial crews worked on hotspots inside the fire perimeter today. About 400 personnel are on the ground, striving to increase containment.

A structure protection crew was deployed to assess any damage. Crews will continue working through the weekend, cold trailing the area to ensure no hotspots reignite.

Evacuees remain uncertain about when they can return home. Oracle resident Josh Johnson expressed concern for those affected, saying, “The people over near 5, 19 out on the far side of the ridge where Webb Road heads toward San Manuel please pray for them. They’re in a world of hurt right now.”

Fire officials urge patience from evacuees, emphasizing safety as their top priority before allowing anyone to return home. Residents in Zones 5 and 13 through 19 are in a “Go” status and need to evacuate immediately, while those in Zones 1 through 4 and 6 through 12 are in a “Set” status along with San Manuel.
