Cesar Chavez sign removed from Tucson’s Barrio Viejo neighborhood | Local News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The “Cesar Chavez Ave” sign was removed Thursday morning from Tucson’s Barrio Viejo neighborhood, where it had been displayed for years.

On March 26, crews removed the sign following allegations claiming the famed labor leader sexually abused young women and girls.

Recently, City of Tucson staff removed the Chavez statue from the Barrio Viejo neighborhood after it had been vandalized over the weekend.

Pima County supervisors unanimously voted to approve a proposal to rename the floating county holiday with his name. The proposal from Supervisor Andres Cano also directs the county administrator to develop a plan with departments to locate and remove signs or art bearing Chavez’s name.
