TUCSON, Ariz. – (KVOA) On Saturday night, The Pima County Sheriff’s Department made an arrest in a deadly hit and run accident that occurred on Tucson’s southside last month.
Back on May 24th, 63-year-old Robert Netherton was in the roadway near the 3600 block of S. Palo Verde Rd. and Ajo Way when he was hit and killed by a car. According to PCSD, the driver fled the scene.
Now, PCSD detectives have made an arrest in connection to the hit and run. Authorities say a PCSD deputy with the DUI unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, that matched the description of the car involved in the deadly hit and run crash.
The driver has been identified as 71-yearold Jesus Torres. Detectives say during an interview, Torres made admissions regarding the incident. However, according to detectives, Torres was unaware someone had been struck.
Torres was booked into the Pima County Jail on one count of Leaving The Scene Accident Involving Serious Injury or Death, a class 3 felony.
The case has been turned over to the Pima County Attorney’s Office.
