Arizona Softball season ends with loss to Ole Miss in Tucson Regional Final | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Arizona Softball’s season came to an end in Tucson.

Ole Miss stunned the No. 13 seed Wildcats 7-3 in a winner-take-all Regional Final game to advance to its 3rd Super Regional. Arizona was knocked out of a regional for the first time since 2013. It was the Wildcats’ second time ever getting eliminated from a Tucson Regional in 26 tries.

Arizona opened up the Tucson Regional with a 13-5 run-rule win over Santa Clara. The Wildcats then lost to Ole Miss 10-8 Saturday. After beating GCU 4-1 in an elimination game, the Wildcats entered the Regional Final needing two wins to advance to the Super Regional.

The U of A run-ruled the Rebels 10-1 in five innings in the first game. Devyn Netz got things going with an RBI double in the first. Sydney Stewart followed that up with a three-run homer, her 19th of the season. The Wildcats led 4-0 after the first inning. Kaiah Altmeyer also homered in the fourth to make it 10-1. 

Senior pitcher Miranda Stoddard pitched all five innings in that win, giving up just one run on five hits while striking out two. 

Stoddard didn’t start game two. Instead, fellow Senior Devyn Netz got the start in the circle. She gave up a pair of two-run home runs in the first inning. She allowed another home run in the third before getting pulled for Aissa Silva.

Arizona scored a pair of runs in the first inning and trailed 6-2 in the third. Stewart hit her 2nd home run of the day and team-high 20th of the season to make it 6-3 Ole Miss. 

Aliyah Binford hit a solo home run to right field in the 4th inning to give the Rebels a 7-3 lead. She had two home runs in the nightcap to go along with one in the first game. 

Arizona finishes the season 48-13, while Ole Miss will play Arkansas in the Super Regional.
