HOUSTON, Texas (KVOA) – Arizona Baseball began its season 0-3 in Arlington, Texas.
The Wildcats are back in Texas this weekend. Boy did they redeem themselves.
Arizona took down No. 1 Texas A&M 3-2 at the Astros Foundation College Classic in Houston. The Wildcats have won six straight games.
Arizona Baseball knocked off top-ranked Texas A&M 3-2 to earn its sixth straight win.
This was a pitchers duel to start.
Starting pitcher Collin McKinney loaded the bases with no outs in the first. He stayed composed and struck out the next three batters to escape the inning. He gave up two hits and struck out six in four scoreless innings.
Texas A&M starter Ryan Prager struck out 10 batters in 6 1/3 innings. He didn’t give up a run until the 6th. With Arizona down 2-0, Aaron Walton hit a solo home run to cut the Aggies lead in half.
That 2-1 score held until the 9th. Easton Breyfogle scored Maddox Mihalakis on a chopper to short. Brendan Summerhill followed that up with a RBI single to give Arizona a 3-2 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the frame, Texas A&M’s Terrence Kiel II hits a chopper to short. Mason White’s throw is off line. Kiel makes a beeline for third, but Mathis Meurant tags him out. Texas A&M called for a review, and the call was upheld.
Casey Hintz struck out Jace LaViolette to complete the upset over the top-ranked team. Hintz earned the win after pitching five innings of relief. He gave up two runs on three hits, striking out seven.
Arizona can’t celebrate too much. It has another tough test in No. 18 Mississippi State Saturday. First pitch is at 2:05 p.m.
