Arizona Baseball hits program-record 8 home runs, advances to Eugene Regional Final | News

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Arizona Baseball is moving on to the Eugene Regional final!

The No. 2 seed Wildcats crushed No. 4 seed Utah Valley 14-4. The U of A is now one win away from making a Super Regional, something it hasn’t done under Head Coach Chip Hale.

After managing only two hits in its opening win over Cal Poly, the Wildbats had 19 hits. That includes eight home runs, a program record for most in a single game.

Mason White had three home runs, the 9th Wildcat to ever have a homer hat trick. The Salpointe Catholic Grad is up to 48 career home runs, seven behind Shelley Duncan’s program leading 55. Tommy Splaine, Brendan Summerhill, Garen Caulfield, Aaron Walton and Adonys Guzman also  joined the home run party.

Arizona’s bullpen was also stellar in the win. Casey Hintz and Michael Hilker Jr. combined for six scoreless innings and nine strikeouts.

Cal Poly knocked out host and No. 12 overall seed Oregon with a 10-8 win in Saturday’s elimination game. Arizona will play either the Mustangs or Utah Valley in the Regional Final Sunday at 7 p.m.
