The last full moon of the year illuminated the skies Thursday.
PHOENIX — A stunning supermoon lit up the Valley sky Thursday evening just before sunset.
Known as the Cold Moon, it gets its name from appearing just days before the winter solstice—the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
Supermoons occur when the moon reaches perigee, the closest point in its orbit to Earth, making it appear larger and brighter than usual.
