PHOENIX — A round of severe storms rolled through the Valley Saturday evening, dropping between half an inch to over one inch of rain in several areas. These recent storms have officially wiped out our monsoon season rainfall deficit!
As of now, Phoenix Sky Harbor has recorded 2.76 inches of rainfall for the season, which runs through September 30th. That’s above the seasonal average of 2.43 inches (based on 30-year normals).
Looking ahead, the storm system responsible for the heavy rain is shifting north and east, which means lower rain chances for the lower deserts, including the Phoenix metro area, on Sunday. However, we can’t rule out a stray shower or isolated thunderstorm in the Valley.
The best chances for rain and storms on Sunday will be in the High Country, where flash flooding remains a concern, especially near burn scar areas.
With the storm system still influencing our weather, temperatures will stay below normal. Expect highs in the upper 80s across the Valley Sunday, with overnight lows in the low 70s.
Looking ahead to next week, high pressure will rebuild, leading to a gradual warm-up across the region.
