PHOENIX — We are tracking an historic March heatwave for Arizona in the coming days.
As high pressure builds in, temperatures will soar to nearly 30 degrees above normal by the end of next week.
Here in the Valley, daytime highs will climb into the 90s over the next several days before reaching the triple digits toward the middle of next week.
Daily heat records will be shattered and new records for the early 100-degree day and the most 100-degree days in March will also be set here in Phoenix.
Right now, the record-earliest triple-digit day is March 26, 1988. That is the only time Phoenix has ever hit 100 in the month of March so far, but next week it’s looking like we could hit 100 or hotter Wednesday through at least Sunday.
The National Weather Service has already issued Extreme Heat Watches for March 19th through the 22nd, so those will be ABC15 Weather Action Days as a reminder to take action to stay safe in the heat.
Make sure to limit your time outside and drink plenty of water.
Hiking trails may be closed to keep people and first responders safe. Dog are also not allowed on the trails anytime it is over 100 degrees.
By next Thursday and Friday, Phoenix could even climb to 105 degrees, which we typically don’t see until the end of May.
