Woman charged in death of baby at Phoenix airport released

PHOENIX — A Washington woman accused of killing her baby and leaving the newborn girl in a trash can at Sky Harbor Airport has been released from MCSO custody, according to authorities.

On Oct 10, 2005, the baby girl’s body was found wrapped in a hotel bag in a woman’s restroom garbage can at the Phoenix airport. She became known as “Baby Skylar.” 

In February 2024, police identified Annie Anderson, 51, of Arlington, Washington, as the baby’s mother.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said Anderson was released to “her self” on Dec. 12, 2024.

Other details about Anderson’s released have not been revealed by authorities.

Anderson is facing the following charges:

• Murder in the first-degree 
• Child abuse
• Concealment of a body
