Woman accused of threatening children with knife rearrested after missing court


Boulder Police said on Friday that they have arrested Alyiah Vega for a second time.

BOULDER, Colo. — Boulder Police said on Friday they have arrested a suspect for the second time this week: on suspicion of threatening a group of children with a knife and then skipping out on her court appearance.

Boulder Police initially released the incorrect name for the suspect who they are now identifying as Alyiah Faith Vega, 52. Police said Vega gave a family member’s information when she was first arrested and has used numerous aliases through the years.

Just before 11 a.m. Monday, a woman holding a knife followed a teacher and children in the 1700 block of Broadway, police said. The woman got within 10 feet of the group, waved the knife around and threatened to kill them,, according to witnesses. The teacher and students walked away and were uninjured, a media release says.

Officers found the woman a short time later near 17th Street and Arapahoe Avenue, police said. She was booked into the Boulder County jail on one count of menacing and was released on Tuesday on a personal recognizance bond.

Prosecutors said Vega was scheduled to appear in court for a filing of charges at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. She failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Prosecutors said they have filed a total of 19 felony menacing charges and 17 child abuse/negligence charges against Vega. 

She also have active warrants in Boulder County, Lakewood and Edgewater related to drugs, criminal impersonation and DUI, police said on Friday.
