Teenage girl found, shot killed in west Phoenix



Police are investigating after a teenager was found dead on Monday morning in west Phoenix.

What we know:

According to Phoenix Police, officers at around 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 4 responded to an apartment near 75th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard for reports of a body.

Once at the scene, officers found a teenage girl with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen was identified as 15-year-old Kyelonna Meya Smiley.

“Officers have secured the area, and detectives are expected to respond to assume the investigation,” police said.

What we don’t know:

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting. Police didn’t release any information on possible suspects.
