Teen injured in shooting near Avondale elementary school



A 16-year-old is in critical condition after a shooting near Avondale’s Conyon Breeze Elementary.

AVONDALE, Ariz. — A teen was injured in a shooting near an Avondale elementary school Monday afternoon. 

Officers were called to the area of Monte Vista Road and 116th Drive around 3:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting, according to the Avondale Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound. 

The teen was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition. 

The suspect in the shooting ran off before officers arrived on the scene. 

Conyon Breeze Elementary School, located near the scene, was put on lockdown until police determined the suspect had left the area.
