Two detectives in an unmarked car joined the chase and a detective in the passenger seat fired at Prock while Prock was hit with the car.
Prock died at the scene. The injured officer is in the hospital in serious but stable condition.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers our officers face every day to keep our community safe. Our department is like a family, so when one of us is hurt, we all feel it. Thankfully, our officer survived, and their prognosis is positive. However, they sustained serious injuries that will take time to heal. We are grateful for the support we have received from Maricopa residents, as well as our fellow law enforcement departments across Pinal County and the Valley. We remain committed to serving our community and ensuring the safety of Maricopa,” Maricopa Police Chief Mark Goodman said in a statement.
The other officer and the two detectives are on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure following a shooting.
Both officers were equipped with body-worn cameras, which were activated during the incident. The detectives were not wearing body-worn cameras.
