PHOENIX – After being shot, Phoenix Police say a victim walked into the Burton Barr Central Library in Phoenix on Sunday afternoon asking for help.
What we know:
The July 27 shooting happened around 2 p.m. near Central Avenue and McDowell Road.
“When officers arrived, they located an adult male with a gunshot wound. The man was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Officers located a scene nearby and have begun follow-up,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Rob Scherer.
“The victim in this case has been pronounced deceased at the hospital. Homicide detectives have responded to assume this investigation,” police said.
The victim was identified as Oscar Maldonado Jr., 25.
On Aug. 1, police announced 35-year-old Ray Martinez had been arrested. He was booked into jail and is accused of second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

What led up to the shooting remains under investigation.

A judge set the bond for Martinez at $1 million.
