A pair of thieves decided they wanted to play Grinch at one Phoenix home.
PHOENIX — A Phoenix family is speaking out after security video captured two thieves stealing packages from their front porch early Christmas morning.
The theft happened around 1:50 a.m. near 33rd Street and Mountain View Road, while most residents were asleep. Video from David Stevens’ Ring doorbell camera shows a man moving up to his home, grabbing packages from the front doorstep, before disappearing in seconds.
“I’ve lived here about four years, and I’ve never had anything like this happen before,” Stevens said.

What the video shows can be described as a typical porch pirate theft, but it’s one that carried extra meaning for his family during the holiday.
Stevens said the stolen items included two Amazon packages containing last-minute Christmas gifts for his family, including his young daughter.
“The electronics were a streaming stick, and the play set was a pretend mop set for my daughter,” he said.
Despite several visible surveillance cameras around the home, Stevens said the thieves did not hesitate.
“They actually didn’t even park in front of my home,” he said. “They parked a little bit further down, so it definitely seemed like they knew what they were doing.”
Stevens has since filed a police report and hopes someone may recognize the suspect’s walk or body language from the video. He does not expect the stolen packages to be recovered and says he is not holding out hope for an apology.
Instead, Stevens said the incident served as a reminder of what matters most during the holidays.
“We take the time to spend time with our family. That’s what’s really important,” he said. “Things can get replaced, but family can’t.”
