Phoenix Police ask for community assistance to identify cars involved in crash

Brittany Geib, 29, and her dog, Dexter, were both hit and killed. Police are asking the community for assistance.

PHOENIX — Phoenix Police are asking for help in tracking down two drivers involved in a deadly hit-and-run.

It happened in south Phoenix, near 51st Avenue and West Elwood Street.

Authorities say 29-year-old Brittany Geib and her dog, whom her family identified as Dexter, were killed around 1 a.m. Friday, after two cars hit them. The drivers of both cars left the scene.

Phoenix Police said a driver happened to see Brittany standing in the road over her dog after he was hit. They turned around to try and help Brittany, but by the time they got to her, she had also been fatally hit by a vehicle.

The witness, police say, stayed on scene blocking traffic and giving authorities what information they could about what they witnessed.

Authorities also said that during their investigation, they found debris from what appears to be a Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Camry that are believed to be involved. It’s unclear the color and year of those vehicles, but both are believed to have significant damage.

12News spoke with multiple family members of Brittany. They say she was loved, had a big heart, and will be terribly missed. They’re asking for prayers and answers to this horrible situation.

Authorities are also asking for the public’s help with any information about what happened.

“If you’re a community member and you’re out there and you work for a car dealership or you work on vehicles, if you’re working on a vehicle that has some damage that might be consistent with this collision, it’s important to call 911 or Silent Witness,” Sgt. Brian Bower with Phoenix Police said. “Detectives can go out there see if the evidence that was taken at the scene may match the vehicle you’re working on. Please be vigilant.”

A GoFundMe has been created by the family to help during this difficult time. If you’d like to donate, you can go here. If you have any information about this case, you can call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. You can be anonymous and be eligible for up to $2,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
