Phoenix man facing murder charges in his baby’s death, police say

PHOENIX — An infant’s death last year has been ruled a homicide and the baby’s father is facing charges of child abuse and murder in the case.

Officers responded to a home near 20th Avenue and Chipman Road on August 31, 2025, for reports of a child with injuries. The baby, whose age was not given, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The baby died on Sept. 3, 2025, police said. 

At the time, the family, including the baby’s father, was interviewed. It was discovered that the baby’s father, 26-year-old Domingo Herrera Espinoza, was caring for the baby at the time of the incident, police said. 

On Feb. 25, the baby’s death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner, police said. Espinoza was arrested on March 5, police said. 

Espinoza is facing child abuse and murder charges, according to police. 

No other information about the baby’s death was given.
