Phoenix high school staff member finds handgun buried outside school entrance

PHOENIX — A student is in custody after allegedly burying a handgun just outside the entrance of a Phoenix high school.

Phoenix police said a staff member told a school resource officer for Mountain Pointe High School that a handgun was found partially buried just outside the entrance to the school.

After reviewing surveillance footage, police identified a student, interviewed them, and then took them into custody without incident. 

The student was arrested and is facing a charge of a minor in possession of a firearm. 

The identity of the student was not released, and Phoenix police did not provide any additional information.
