Nick Reiner hires high-profile defense attorney after arrest for parents’ murder

WASHINGTON — Nick Reiner, accused of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, has hired defense attorney Alan Jackson, who previously represented Karen Read and Harvey Weinstein. 

Jackson confirmed Tuesday that he was representing Nick Reiner, saying his client would not be in court Tuesday for medical reasons. Jackson told reporters outside the courthouse that he did not know what the medical issue was, but he said Reiner will not appear before Wednesday.

Jackson is a high-profile lawyer who represented Harvey Weinstein at his Los Angeles trial and Karen Read at her trial in Massachusetts. He was a central figure in the HBO documentary on the Read case. 

Jackson, a partner at the firm Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP, was lead counsel in Read’s case and secured an acquittal in the death of her boyfriend.

The bio on his firm’s website proclaims that in the Read case, Jackson’s “strategic expertise and courtroom presence were instrumental in securing a not guilty verdict in the high-stakes murder retrial, further cementing his reputation as one of the country’s top criminal defense lawyers.” 

Before going into private practice, Jackson was a prosecutor in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and secured the murder conviction of music icon Phil Spector.

“His client list reads like a who’s who of Hollywood celebrities, NBA stars, billionaire CEOs, and foreign dignitaries — all turning to him for ‘must-win’ cases,” his attorney bio states.

He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991 and studied law at Pepperdine University.
