Mesa police arrest 18-year-old for deadly 2024 shooting

MESA, Ariz. — A suspect has been arrested nearly a year after a 23-year-old man was shot to death in Mesa. 

Gavin Wadzinski was found unresponsive on a sidewalk near Thomas and Recker roads on April 21, 2024. He died from a gunshot wound.

Mesa police said 18-year-old Devin Moll was arrested on April 1, 2025 for allegedly being involved in the deadly shooting.

After inspecting the victim’s cell phone, investigators learned Wadzinski and Moll had agreed to meet up to conduct a transaction and Moll described the type of vehicle he’d be driving. 

Police reviewed traffic surveillance footage and found a vehicle matching that description in the area of the shooting when it occurred. This vehicle eventually helped lead investigators to the suspect.

Moll allegedly told police he thought the victim was going to “rob him” at the time and so he shot him, records show.  Police said the suspect is facing a charge of second-degree murder.
