Man dead after shooting involving officers in south Phoenix

PHOENIX — A man is dead after a shooting involving officers in south Phoenix on Friday night, according to the city’s police department.

Around 9 p.m., officers were called near I-17 and 19th Avenue to assist the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Upon arrival, law enforcement from both agencies were involved in a shooting.

KNN video appears to show law enforcement using less lethal force on a man before he was hit by gunfire and was pronounced dead by the Phoenix Fire Department, police said.

There were no injuries to troopers or officers, DPS said.

DPS’ Major Incident Division is handling the investigation.

Details on what led up to the shooting are unknown at this time.
