Man arrested for July 4 Scottsdale burglary

Police arrested Jeremy Dykstra Sunday for the burglary that took place on July 4.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A man was arrested Sunday in connection with a July 4 burglary in Scottsdale.

Officers were called to the area of 11400 E Black Rock Road for reports of a burglary in progress, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.

The homeowners were not home, but a family member told officers he was at the home and saw a man walk in front of the window. When the family member tried to leave the home, they saw a parked vehicle in the driveway. The family member then heard glass break and went to a neighbor to call 911.

When officers arrived, a man was sitting behind the wheel of the car parked in the driveway. Officers tried to block the car from leaving, but the suspect drove off, hitting a patrol car and nearly hitting two officers who were on foot.

Officers pursued the car but ended the chase because of the suspect’s speed and concerns about safety.

The driver was later identified as Jeremy Dykstra, 31.

On Sunday, Scottsdale detectives arrested Dykstra at 10400 N Black Canyon Highway without incident. A search warrant was served at the hotel room where he was staying, and evidence of the burglary was located inside. Detectives located evidence that Dykstra was pawning items from the burglary.

$27,500 in jewelry, handbags, and electronics were stolen during the burglary. Most of the stolen items were recovered during the investigation.
