The sheriff’s office said the vehicle was logged at 120 miles per hour while fleeing deputies.

Deputies attempted to catch up to the vehicle as it drove toward the airport.

“Due to the layout of the airport, the deputy was unable to turn around or drive in a different direction,” the sheriff’s office said. “Shortly thereafter, the vehicle crashed approximately half of a mile in front of the Deputy adjacent to the Terminal 3 ticketing/bag check.”

The vehicle rolled over several times during the crash. It also caught fire.

The driver, identified as Ivan Correa, was arrested after the crash. Two other people were in the vehicle. One tried to run away, but all the occupants were eventually found and detained.

The sheriff’s office said Correa is the subject of a DUI investigation, and blood test results are pending.

Sky Harbor said the incident did not significantly impact airport operations. There was damage to a sign and two bollard, according to airport officials.
