The suspect in a murder case was recently sentenced to federal prison for scamming investors in Arizona.
CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Chandler man accused of murdering and dismembering an 18-year-old in 2023 has been sentenced to prison for a separate criminal case.
Anthonie Ruinard Jr., 40, was recently sentenced to 87 months in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Arizona.
Prosecutors said the defendant scammed up to 56 victims out of $5.6 million in an investment fraud scheme conducted through a business called “Legacy Investors Group Inc.”
Ruinard reportedly spent the investors’ money on luxury cards, casino gambling and credit card payments. The defendant was ordered to pay $4.5 million in restitution.
Ruinard is still awaiting trial in a Maricopa County murder case involving the death of Parker League, whose dismembered and burned remains were discovered in the Tonto National Forest.
Ruinard was allegedly spotted leaving a Chandler gas station with League and the victim’s blood was allegedly found in the suspect’s trunk, officials said.
Records indicate that the murder case against Ruinard remains pending in Maricopa County Superior Court.
