The Buckeye Police Department said the shooting happened Sunday just after 4 p.m. near 254th Drive and Maricopa Road, which is just northwest of the intersection of Baseline and Miller roads.
Police responded to the incident following a call to 911. Police said yelling could be heard in the background of the call, which ended with the shooting.
Police arrived and one woman came out of the house with her hands in the air.
Police then entered the home and found another woman in her 30s suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman later died.
Police searched the home and found a woman in her 70s in another part of the home. That woman had a gun near her and appears to be the shooter, police said.
Police identified the woman in her 70s is the grandmother of the woman in her 30s.
The grandmother has been taken into custody.
Name of the individuals involved have not been released.
Police originally posted an alert about the shooting to the department’s social media accounts.
Police are asking people to avoid the area and expect investigators to be on scene for an extended period of time.
This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
