The Girl Scout said her troop had previously sold cookies at that location, so they didn’t think anything of it.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A Valley Girl Scout’s cookie sale was cut short after her mother’s car, which was full of Girl Scout cookies, was stolen on Friday while they were setting up to sell at the Promenade Scottsdale.
Claudia Larson said her daughter Chloe’s Girl Scout Troop 6388 had previously sold cookies outside of the Ulta store at the shopping center, so they thought it was a safe spot.

Claudia said she had noticed a man walking past their car as they were unloading and shortly after they turned around, their gray 2021 Genesis GV80 was gone.
“It was like a split second,” Claudia said. “I don’t even think we were there eight minutes.”
Claudia said the car contained at least a dozen cases of Girl Scout cookies, along with her daughter’s school bag, an iPad and her purse.
“Luckily, the gentleman threw my cell phone out the window, because clearly he did not want to be tracked,” she said.
Chloe said the ordeal was upsetting.
“All our stuff was gone, so that was sad, and I felt bad because my mom’s credit cards, my mom (lost) all her stuff,” Chloe said.
However, Chloe said she was grateful the suspect only took material items.
“I’m really glad that we didn’t take our dogs, because if we did, they would have been still in the car while we were taking things out,” Chloe said. “I’m glad I wasn’t in the car either when he took it.”
Claudia echoed similar sentiments and said it was “a huge blessing” that it wasn’t any worse.
Claudia said she has learned through this experience and advised others to practice caution.
“Turn your car off, put your keys in the card and lock it, even if it’s, like, just a turnaround,” she said.
Claudia said she hoped the stolen items would be returned and said she and her daughter would continue to sell cookies to help meet their troop’s goal.
“Her troop is trying to go to Catalina Island,” Claudia said. “They as a group are supposed to sell 9,000 boxes together so that they can go on the trip.”
Claudia said she and her daughter set a personal goal to sell 1,000 boxes and were close to meeting the goal.
“We have one week left, and half of the boxes are gone, so [we are] just trying to figure that part out well,” Claudia said.
Claudia has set up a digital cookie store to help her daughter reach her goal. You can find it by clicking here or by scanning the QR code in the photo below.
