Scottsdale’s Summer Celebrations: June Days Series | Scottsdale

Summer in Scottsdale is anything but sleepy, thanks to the return of June Days, a monthlong celebration packed with activities, sweet treats and community spirit.

Organized by the city of Scottsdale, June Days runs through the end of the month and features a wide range of events designed to showcase the charm of Old Town Scottsdale while supporting local businesses. From yoga sessions and stadium tours to trivia nights and Western movie screenings, the series offers something for just about everyone—and much of it is free.

“June Days serves as an opportunity for the city of Scottsdale to highlight some of our independently owned businesses and offer our community a robust series of activities and engagements throughout the summer,” said Rachel Smetana, tourism and events director for the city of Scottsdale.

One of the signature events is the Tournament of Treats, an online contest where the public can vote for their favorite frozen dessert from a lineup of local spots. Participating vendors include AZ Froze, Jenni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Shakes & Cones, Skoop and Sweet Republic. Voters are entered to win gift cards, giving fans a reason to cool off and indulge.

For those craving a bit of history with their sugar, the Tuesday evening Stories and Sweets series offers a trip back in time through tales of Old Town’s pioneer past. Hosted by Scottsdale Citizen Advisor Bruce Wall, each week features a different topic—from the city’s earliest settlers to its first crime stories—and ends with a dessert from a local bakery like Ruze Cake House or Chin Up Donuts.

Early risers can start their Saturdays with a sunrise yoga session on June 7 at the Scottsdale Civic Center, led by Lululemon ambassadors Patty Tapia and Shawnee Williams. Afterward, head to Breakfast at the Market, where artisan vendors, local musicians and fresh food line the stalls on Brown Avenue. The market runs every Saturday morning through June 28, with live performances from artists like Lindsey Vogt and Ed Helmstead.

Sports fans can explore the city’s baseball history during guided tours of Scottsdale Stadium on June 13 and 14. The $5 admission fee includes stories and access to a ballpark that’s been a hub for spring training and local events for decades. Children 12 and under tour for free.

For a different kind of storytelling, head to Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, where a spaghetti Western film series runs all month. Eight iconic movies that reshaped the genre will be screened, included with museum admission or $10 for film-only access.

Pop culture fans can test their knowledge during a 2000s-themed trivia night at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art on June 13, hosted by local comedian Anwar Newton. Or, for something more reflective, drop by the Scottsdale Civic Center Library on June 14 for a screening of the full four-part docuseries Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones, complete with guided stretch breaks and wellness tips.

Music lovers have a treat in store on June 22, when Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter performs at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets range from $64 to $135 and include a performance by Brandy Clark.

Additional events and specials are happening throughout the city. Hotel Valley Ho is hosting weekend “Sips, Bites and Beats,” and Barre3 Old Town is offering Friday evening themed yoga sessions like “Girls Night Out.” The W Hotel is rolling out weekday discounts, and Yellow Spruce Roasters is serving up 25% off espresso martinis and wine flights during happy hour. Even local tours are getting in the spirit, with JoyridesAZ offering discounts on its Tasty Local Gelato and Ice Cream Tour.

With nightly karaoke at The Grapevine, brunch and live music at Belle’s Nashville Kitchen, and dozens of local shops and restaurants participating, June Days is packed with reasons to get out and explore.
