Rare artifacts on display at RH Crossland Museum | Local News

For more than 40 years, collector Rusty Crossland has assembled rare historical documents, artifacts and sports memorabilia.

Now, his RH Crossland Foundation Historical Sports and History Museum is opening its new chapter in Carefree after relocating from Durango, Colo., and will welcome the community for a grand re-opening Feb. 21 and 22.

Free and open to the public, the museum invites guests to explore items spanning more than 700 years of history.

The collection includes documents from the Revolutionary War and Civil War, materials tied to the Kennedy and Lincoln assassinations, artifacts from the Space Age and Wild West and pieces connected to music icons and pop culture. Many of the historical documents are rarely accessible to the public outside major institutions such as the Smithsonian.

Sports enthusiasts will find more than 400 autographed baseballs and memorabilia from notable athletes, offering an inside look at significant eras in American sports.

Crossland founded the museum in 1998 to honor his parents, both World War II veterans. Today, the RH Crossland Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, continues that legacy by providing free admission and sharing the collection with schools, visitors and local residents. The foundation’s mission includes giving back to organizations and individuals and supporting initiatives that align with its founding values.

The re-grand opening welcomes the community to experience the museum in its new home at 37555 Hum Road in Carefree. Guests are encouraged to stop in, explore the exhibits and learn more about the stories behind the documents and memorabilia.
