Crash involving a police car leaves 1 person dead in Apache Junction



A crash involving a police officer in Apache Junction left one person dead. 

According to a release by the Apache Junction Police Department, the two vehicles collided around 4:20 p.m. while the officer was responding to a call for service.

The deceased individual was not identified and the officer was taken to the hospital.

Officials are waiting to release more information until the driver’s family is notified.

The officer has non-life threatening injuries.

The crash happened at the intersection of Apache Trail and Valley Drive and the intersection was closed for several hours.

Authorities are investigating if the police vehicle had lights and sirens on at the time of the crash. 

The officer was responding to a road rage incident.
