Give gifts this holiday season that are both meaningful and wallet-friendly by creating custom, personalized and unique items in Mesa Public Library’s makerspace, THINKspot!
THINKspot provides hands-on opportunities for creativity and experimentation, offering free training and access to high-tech equipment at no cost to library cardholders. THINKspot is located at four Mesa Public Library locations:
•Main Library, 64 E. First St.
•Dobson Ranch Library, 2425 S. Dobson Road
•Red Mountain Library, 635 N. Power Road
•Gateway Library, 5036 S. Eastmark Parkway (grand opening Saturday, Dec. 6; THINKspot available for public use starting Monday, Dec. 8)
Equipment varies by location, but each THINKspot offers a 3D printer, laser cutter, sewing machine, embroidery machine, vinyl cutter and an iMac with professional video and audio editing software. To use THINKspot equipment, users complete training, sign a liability waiver, and agree to follow the guidelines.
Online trainings are available, and in-person classes this December include:
•Laser-Cut Ornaments at the Dobson Ranch Library, Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. and at the Main Library, Saturday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. for adults (ages 18+)
•Holiday Card Making (using cut pieces from the Cameo vinyl cutter) at the Gateway Library, Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 6pm for adults (ages 18+) and Saturday, Dec 13 at 3 p.m. for families
Registration is required at mesalibrary.org/events. To reserve and use THINKspot equipment on your own, a Mesa Public Library card is required. Cards are free for anyone who lives in Maricopa County for at least 30 consecutive days a year, works, owns property or attends school within the County.
