18-year-old dead after being found in Mesa canal

MESA, AZ — An 18-year-old is dead after being found in a Mesa canal Saturday morning.

Officials say 18-year-old Amari Magdaleno was found face up partially lying in an irrigation ditch near Stapley Drive and Brown Road.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment, but later died.

Police believe intoxication may have played a factor.

The investigation remains ongoing.
